Sponsorship Agreement Holders (SAH) are established organizations that have signed a sponsorship agreement with the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
To be eligible to become a SAH, an organization must be incorporated (a legally created organization). The organization must sign a sponsorship agreement with the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.
A SAH can be a local, regional or national organization. A SAH assumes overall responsibility and liability for the management of sponsorships under their agreement. In addition, a SAH must be located in the community where the refugee or refugee family is expected to resettle.
A SAH can authorize other groups in the community to sponsor refugees under its agreement. These groups are known as “constituent groups.”
A constituent group (CG) is a group authorized in writing by the SAH to act on its behalf in sponsoring refugees.
SAHs and CGs form the majority of sponsors, approximately 85 percent.
You can find out more information about what it means to be a Sponsorship Agreement Holder by reading through the Sponsorship Agreement.
